The Princess Diaries Online Free
In these days of crude humor and explicit material, The Princess Diaries movie gives viewers a breath of fresh air because it manages to give them a remarkable romantic comedy with the same effectiveness it would have had if coarse language or explicit material was put into it. The movie stars a chirpy and bright newcomer Anne Hathaway who plays the part of Mia Thermopolis, a 15 year old girl whos public speaking skills are far from impressive and is not part of the any cool crowd in her high school. She has a crush on her jock classmate played by Erik Von Detten and has a lovable best friend called Lily who is played by Heather Matarazzo.
The plot of the Princess Diaries movie starts off when the distant grandmother of Mias comes to visit. The ever graceful Julie Andrews plays the grandmother. Initially she was shocked to see her grandmother, but to top things off, her grandmother says she is from Genovia and the queen of the land. To make matters worse, the grandmother tells Mia that she must become Genovias princess and must make a decision if she wants to be so by the end of nightfall. She is offered the title since there is no authentic heir to the throne apart from herself. The rest of the movie then revolves around how Mia prepares herself to become princess material and we follow the thrills and spills on the way.
Since the romantic comedy genre is so overpopulated, it is not surprising that this movie does not feel original and exciting. Yet, it manages to charm the daylights out of you because it treads smoothly on the innocent plot it follows. A cheerful, vivacious and lively movie, The Princess Diaries has enough laughable moments that authorizes its romantic comedy classification.
Julie Andrews is perfect as the Queen-Grandmother who coaches Mia on royal behavior. Her performance is simply flawless and brings so much more to the movie. But the real show-stealer is Anne Hathaway without a doubt. This is no mean task considering this is her first film. In certain parts, she reminds one of Julia Roberts. Her talent is obvious right from the beginning and she performs both the drama and comic scenes extremely well. This is definitely one actor to watch out for in future and a huge star in the making.
Other notable performance come in the form of Hector Elizondo, who plays a limousine driver-cum- body guard, Heather Matarazzo who plays Lily, Selma Blair and Mandy Moore.
