C02 Extinguishers You Should Keep It In The House In Case Of A Fire

Fire should be looked like a living thing. It replicates the actions of a savage or a beast. It devours everything in its way like some wild animal. If you have ever witnessed a forest fire then you have seen firsthand that this is true. To stop a fire you need to suffocate it much like you would a crazed man. C02 extinguishers are used as a method to suffocate certain types of fires.

An out of control fire, any fire that is not being continued in a pit or fireplace, will act unpredictably. To stop this ravaging beast you need to cuts its oxygen supply. Fires live on oxygen like all other living things and can only be stopped by cutting off the oxygen it is getting.

Cutting off the oxygen of a fire requires a method of suffocating it, much like you might smother someone with a blanket. C02 extinguishers cut the oxygen out of the air and so they are effective for killing some classes of fires.

Fire falls into several classifications. These classifications are all grouped by letters. Class A fires are those that are made from standard combustible products such as paper or wood. Class B fires are the result of bringing flammable liquids such as gasoline. Class C fires are electrical fires. These are most often caused by faulty wiring that causes a spark. C02 extinguishers are used for class B and Class C fires.

Paper and wood fires are extinguished by placing water on them. Water is effective with class A but not Class B or C fires. Water will actually fuel a Class B or C fire. This can be dangerous when trying to put out a fire. A lot of fires that burn in a home are the class B or C fires. It is pertinent for your family’s safety that you keep a properly functioning c02 extinguisher on hand in your home.

The c02 inside of extinguishers is in a liquid form but when it mixes with air it transforms into a snow like substance that foams out of the extinguisher. This foam it what you see used most often to put out household fires that are caused by electricity or flammable gas.

When operating a C02 extinguishers it is important that you never point it at someone. Pointing the extinguisher down toward the bottom of the fire, pull the safety plug. This thin pin is in the handle to keep the extinguisher from going off inadvertently. Squeeze the lever and spray the c02 in sweeping motion side to side, like you would move a mop. When the fire starts to die you can start to spray higher into the far edges of the fire. Continue to do this till the fire has died.

Since a c02 extinguisher contains a form of dry ice it serves as a great way to chill a case of warm beer. You can place the beer in a cooler and point the extinguisher toward the beer and spray it with c02. Before drinking from the beer bottles be sure to wipe off the beer
